William Elze Weekly and Irene Jane Skaggs were married on the 14th of March 1841 in Jackson County, Missouri. He was 28 and she was 17 at the time.

In 1853 they and their young children crossed the plains to Oregon with ox teams - a journey of 6 months. They stayed in the Willamette Valley for a year, and then moved to Douglas County, Oregon, where they operated a stage station and post office. In 1873 they moved to Coos County, Oregon.

William died at the age of 77 in 1889 and Irene at the age of 75 in 1899. They are both buried at Dora Cemetery (aka McKinley Cemetery), Dora, Coos County, Oregon. Some of their children, grandchildren, and other relatives are buried there as well.
