Irene's Obituary:

"Grandma" Weekly Dead.

Irene J Weekly, commonly known as "Grandma" Weekly, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. I.E. Rose near this city, last Saturday morning, Jan 14, 1899.  Her maiden name was Skaggs and she was born in the state of Tennessee, Oct 11, 1823.  She was married to Wm. E. Weekly in 1841 and crossed the plains and located in the Willamette valley in 1853.  However, the next year they moved to Douglas county where they remained until 1873, when they came to Coos county and cast their lot in the Coquille valley.  The family has been closely identified with every stage of the county's development and advancement, as Mr. I. T. Weekly, being at present, one of our progressive county commissioners.  The honorable old gentleman [William, Irene's husband?] departed this life several years ago and his remains were buried in Dora cemetery, by the side of whom the remains of Mrs. Weekly was laid last Monday.  She was a grand old pioneer lady, loved and honored by all. She was also a consistent Christian and was a devoted member of the German Baptist Church.  The 7 children are all living and are: John S. of eastern Oregon ; I. T. ; E. E. ; R. L. ; and W. M. of this county and Mrs. Turner of Portland and Mrs. I. E. Rose of this city. {I am not sure why her son, Jefferson, was omitted from this list of her children.  He was stili alive when Irene died.]
